She began to take photos of Black women in her town and gather their stories in poem form. She took her passion to New York and continued her photo/poetry journalism style there. Inspired by the younger generation, she currently focuses on capturing the stories of younger Black artists that inspire her and applying their process to her own. FEMALE ENTREPRENEUR & TRAILBLAZER 25-30 / Female / African-American/African She is the youngest owner of a Black beauty supply store, an oasis and safe haven. Owning her own store is a huge step in reclaiming Black business and resolidifying the sanctity of the Black beauty supply store. FEMALE PROFESSIONAL KARATEKA 25-100 / Female / African-American/African Professional karateka. She has been practicing karate since she was a child when she'd follow her brothers to class. Despite it being a male-dominated sport and usually being the only Black person in the dojo, she has no plans to stop training. FEMALE HORSEBACK RIDER 25-29 / Female / African-American/African Unassuming cowgirl in her twenties. Very much a badass but not afraid to embrace her feminine side. West African born, American raised, she makes a point to always ride in kente cloth, embracing both sides of her story and proving time and time again that being a “cowgirl” is a lifestyle, not a look.
