Ashley Judd, puffy?

Weight gain, plastic surgery speculation 'a misogynistic assault on women,' she says

Since returning to the spotlight as the star of ABC's"Missing," Ashley Judd has been scrutinized by the media. Articles and blogs have commented on her puffy-looking face and speculated about her weight gain and possible plastic surgery.

In a new column, Judd takes aim at the media, calling the comments about her appearance "a misogynistic assault on women."

"We are described and detailed, our faces and bodies analyzed and picked apart, our worth ascertained and ascribed based on the reduction of personhood to simple physical objectification. Our voices, our personhood, our potential, and our accomplishments are regularly minimized and muted," she writes.

Though Judd asserts that she doesn't read articles about her or interviews she's done, she did notice one tabloid article that suggested she used injectable fillers. Judd says it's "pointedly nasty, gendered, and misogynistic."

She also points out that outlets have accused her of having work done because of her lack of wrinkles at 43. Other press have pointed out the difference between her face now and in 1998, saying "Ashley has lost her familiar beauty audiences loved her for."

Judd says that the puffy appearance was due to taking steroids to treat a sinus infection, and  admits that she's gained weight and wears a six/eight when she used to wear a two/four, but shames the media for suggesting that her husband may begin searching for a new wife.

(Seriously. Someone said that.)

She expresses major offense that legitimate news outlets -- outlets that have covered her charity work and her acting endeavors -- ran the story without offering her "the dignity of the opportunity to comment. It's an indictment of them that they would even consider the content printable, and that they, too, without using time-honored journalistic standards, would perpetuate with un-edifying delight such blatantly gendered, ageist, and mean-spirited content."
