Katy Perry discusses Kristen Stewart-Robert Pattinson, John Mayer

Remember when Katy Perry crashed a wedding rehearsal with Robert Pattinson last May, just after he broke up with "Twilight" costar Kristen Stewart?

No? Well, they did, and the rumor mill went into overdrive over the potential new couple.

It turns out the singer turned "Smurfs 2" star reached out to Stewart about the whole scandal to make it clear that she wasn't going after the "Twilight" heartthrob.

Perry, 28, said she was doing nothing more than consoling a friend after his breakup.

"I sent her a text message saying: 'I know you've seen all this stuff but you know I would never disrespect you. I'm not that person,'" Perry said in the September issue of Elle UK (via MTV UK). "'I'm just trying to be a friend to him but it is unfortunate that I do have a set of ...'"

In the upcoming issue, Perry also talks about her previous relationships. In the July 2013 issue of Vogue, she famouslysaid that ex-husband Russell Brand told her via text message that he was divorcing her. Pattinson, 27, happened to be there to help her through her 2012 divorce, and Perry remained a pal to him when news broke that Stewart had cheated on her man with "Snow White and the Huntsman" director Rupert Sanders, Us Weekly reported.

As for her own headline-making love life, the kitschy pop star admitted that she seems to be attracted to "challenging" men.

"The men I have gone for are challenging, yes, but they're also wildly intelligent and poetic," she added. "I'm not interested in taming anyone -- I'm pretty wild myself."

The "Teenage Dream" singer also called on-again-off-again beau John Mayer a "broken bird" but admitted that she remained "madly in love with him."

Soon after, she and the Hollywood bachelor were spotted together, essentially confirming that they were on once again.

"He pulled away," Perry told Elle of her broken bird. "That was a big hello for me. I realized I could lose the person I loved and I had to deal with some things, issues I think a lot of women have."

"You can be strong in one aspect of your life but submissive in another. In relationships, it was hard for me to speak up and set boundaries. I think that a lot of that has to do with the fear of loss."

But Perry also has a lot to gain this year: She's set to release her third album, "Prism," on Oct. 22, and "Smurfs 2" hits theaters on Wednesday.
